Gatherings

Ngā Huihuinga

Te Mana Raraunga hosts and attends a range of ā-kanohi hui in Aotearoa and around the world.

For virtual gatherings please see our Virtual Wānanga page

TMR members attended the GIDSOV25 Global Indigenous Data Sovereignty conference that took place on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country (also known as Canberra, Australia), 31 March-3 April 2025. Over 280 Indigenous participants attended the three-day conference, with the third day reserved for kōrero with non-Indigenous groups.

The group photo to the right came from our attempt to bring together the various Māori conference delegates at the conference gala dinner.

All of the panels were recorded and are posted on YouTube. There are also graphic recordings of the main themes from each of the talks and panels. All of this is hosted by Yadhura Walani at this link. Thank you to the organisers (including Te Pokapū members Kiri and Nicole) and the hosts.

TMR Members Strategy Hui, February 2025

Te Mana Raraunga (TMR) held a one-day strategy hui for members of the network on February 10th, 2025, at the University of Waikato.

We asked members what they would like to see TMR focus on, and what we bring with us from the last ten years. Small groups worked together to answer key questions on our strategy, direction, and what they would like to see from TMR in the future. The day also featured a panel of some of the founding members (Tahu Kukutai, Maui Hudson and Andrew Sporle), and a session by the Indigenous trade project Tauhokohoko.

The themes from the hui were written into a summary document, but we describe them here briefly. Firstly, members said that tikanga, values, and community need to come first, and that we need to consider the structure of TMR and our relationship with Te Kāhui Raraunga.

Members said they value TMR as a network to ‘broker’ or be a ‘matchmaker’ for connections; and that TMR should continue advocacy, policy submissions, and holding the Crown to account. Members said we should continue to focus on the classic ‘capacity and capability building’ and that it would be helpful for TMR to highlight success stories for others, while also keeping tabs on future, emerging challenges.
